Password protect hard drive or pendrive without any additional software

Now days, people are more concerned about their privacy than ever before. There are lots of tools available in the market to protect your privacy online as well as in day-to-day life. In this post, we will discuss, how can we password protect out computer hard drive as well as external USB drives.

The biggest benefit of this method is that you do not need to install any additional software or files for this, Microsoft has provided a built-in feature in windows which most of the people are not aware of. With this feature, your can protect your data and files without worrying. The service name is BitLocker. This is an inbuilt function in Microsoft Windows.

To lock any partition drive on your computer or external USB drive, follow this steps.

• Go to Control Panel > System and Security > BitLocker Drive encryption
• Click on manage BitLocker

Now the drives available for encryption will be displayed.

• Click on turn on BitLocker on the respective drive.
• You will be prompted to choose your desired password
• After typing password, click next
• The process would take some time depending on the data contained in that drive
• After successful encryption, a golden lock will be visible on drive icon
• Double click on the drive, enter your password, and there you go.

Disadvantage

There is one disadvantage of this method for computer internal drive encryption. Once you unlock your drive, you can not lock it again. Drive will be automatically locked once you shut down your computer. You can not re-lock drive once it is unlocked. This is a big con with this method. For external USB drives and pen drives, it is just perfect. Just unplug the drive from the computer and plug it again. The external drive will prompt to enter the password every time you plug into the PC.

You can keep your private files and data that you rarely use, in separate drive within the computer. But keep in mind that once the drive is unlocked, you need to shut down your PC to lock it again.

Long time supporter, and thought I’d drop a comment.

Your wordpress site is very sleek – hope you don’t mind me
asking what theme you’re using? (and don’t mind if I steal it?
    :P)

I just launched my site –also built in wordpress like
yours– but the theme slows (!) the site down quite a bit.

In case you have a minute, you can find it by searching for “royal cbd” on Google (would appreciate any feedback) – it’s still in the
    works.

Keep up the good work– and hope you all take care of yourself during the coronavirus scare!
